Chronic hepatitis and fibrosis due to paracetamol

Abstract

|
Chronic hepatitis and fibrosis developed in a man who had been taking 3.0 gm of paracetamol daily for about a year. Liver biopsy done 30 days after the drug Was stopped showed prominent diffuse central necrosis and portal changes. This prompted anti-inflamatory treatment, with subsequent improvement, in liver pathology. Chronic ingestion of therapeutic doses of paracetamol may produce hepatic necrosis and hepatitis and fibrosis.
